Automation for omnichannel retail
Australian Super Retail Group invests in Knapp solution
The Super Retail Group has commissioned Knapp to build a new, automated warehouse including an integrated digital solution - located in Melbourne.
The new facility will enable SRG to fulfill deliveries to stores and online orders for the four brands Supercheap Auto, Rebel, BCF and Macpac from a single warehouse. For SRG, this project heralds a new era in logistics and should help the retailer to overcome various challenges in its supply chain.
Hand in hand: humans and robots
The new automation solution is tailored to SRG's requirements and objectives in order to meet current and future requirements, such as the company's constantly growing range of products and order volumes. In future, people and robots will work hand in hand in the new warehouse. At the heart of the solution is the OSR Shuttle Evo, an automated storage and picking system with fast warehouse robots, the shuttles. With a total of seven aisles and 90,000 storage locations, the system offers sufficient space for SRG's wide and constantly growing range of goods.
Ergonomic goods-to-person workstations
The system is designed for future growth and can be expanded to include two additional aisles - without interrupting operations. Customer orders are processed at 14 ergonomically designed goods-to-person workstations from Knapp's Pick-it-Easy series. Four orders can be processed simultaneously at each workstation. Omnichannel fulfillment is one of the supreme disciplines in logistics, as it involves orchestrating different flows of goods for end customer delivery and store delivery. This is made possible by the highly specialized logistics software KiSoft from Knapp, which is the brain of the automation solution. KiSoft has numerous functions, especially in the area of warehouse management (WMS).
