Mosolf establishes rail transportation between Europe and China
The Mosolf Group is planning a sustainable rail product along the new Silk Road between Europe and China. The rail link between Lodz in Poland and Chengdu in China will also be used to transport finished vehicles in the future. Commissioning with test runs is scheduled for the second half of 2019. Mosolf has concluded initial contracts for suitable operating sites along the route. The automotive logistics company has also founded its own Chinese subsidiary on site, which will be responsible for the company's rail activities on the new route.
The aim of the project is to establish the existing Chengdu-Euro Express Railway for the transportation of finished vehicles. The line has been running between Qingbaijiang station in Chengdu and Lodz since 2013. It crosses the Chinese border at the Alataw Pass in Xinjiang province and then runs via Kazakhstan, Russia and the Republic of Belarus to Poland.
The automotive logistics specialist has now laid the foundation for the new rail product. On March 26, 2019 and May 24, 2019, agreements were signed with the Polish rail terminal operator Spedcont in Lodz and the Chengdu Qingbaijiang District People's Government to lease operating space with a rail siding.
Mosolf will handle the pre-carriage of the vehicles by road and rail as well as the loading of the vehicles into containers with its own staff and at its own facility. This will be directly connected to the Spedcont rail terminal in Lodz. Spedcont will be responsible for container handling, including the loading of containers onto rail wagons, as well as empty container management. Special fastening racks - so-called rack systems - will be used. This allows the vehicles to be loaded safely and efficiently into the containers.
"Customers benefit from seamless quality control, the direct connection of the rail terminal to the container loading station and daily departures on this main route of the new Silk Road between Europe and China," says Dr. Jörg Mosolf, CEO of the Mosolf Group, and adds: "Our investments in land, facilities, personnel and equipment will further promote the Chengdu-Euro Express Railway as the optimal solution for European vehicle manufacturers to export products to China."
