DELO digitizes shipping process with AEB

DELO Industrie Klebstoffe has digitized and optimized its shipping process with software from AEB SE. The AEB shipping software supports DELO in creating shipments, packaging, handling dangerous goods and loading all consignments. It is also used for export processing and communication with customs.

From its headquarters in Windach, DELO, the specialist for industrial adhesives, sends a good 20,000 shipments with around 35,000 packages to customers all over the world every year. © DELO

Seven transport partners are also directly connected to the solution. This enables DELO to automatically create correct labels, shipping documents and EDI messages for them. The software also creates generic shipping labels and shipping orders for DELO for shipments with around 150 other carriers, especially for Incoterms Ex Works and FCA.

Special feature: handling dangerous goods
Special coolant packaging processes are also stored in the software - for example for temperature-sensitive adhesives. Here, the goods are usually placed in a polystyrene box with dry ice together with a temperature recorder. The software recognizes the requirements based on the article number and item types and guides the packer step by step through the process. The solution also indicates, for example, whether and which dangerous goods label needs to be attached.

Significant time savings
The software has been in use in all areas since March 2021 and DELO now processes a good 20,000 shipments with around 35,000 packages every year. Christian Walther, Head of Production and Logistics at DELO, draws a positive conclusion. "Our goal was to increase process reliability, the degree of automation and efficiency through consistent digitalization and fully integrated software. We have achieved this." This is reflected, among other things, in the time savings achieved: the throughput times for a shipping order fell by around 30% on average.

The decisive factor for the introduction was DELO's continued growth in recent years. "With the increased volume of shipments, our previous process was increasingly reaching its limits," explains Christian Walther. The company previously used different IT systems for shipping and some process steps were completed manually. For export declarations, for example, the company relied on customs software from a third-party provider, shipping labels were generated using tools from the respective transport partners and delivery documents were created in the ERP system.
