ABB Robotics is expanding its range of SCARA robots for industrial applications with the introduction of the IRB 930. The new robot, which is available in three variants and with payloads of 12 and 22 kilograms, has been designed to tap into new growth potential in traditional and new markets.

The IRB 930 was designed for fast point-to-point tasks that require high payloads and large working areas. The 22 kg version is able to handle more and heavier workpieces, which enables a 10 percent increase in throughput. The IRB 930 also offers a maximum joining force of 250 N, which is 200 percent higher than other comparable robots. This makes it suitable for force-intensive screwdriving and assembly tasks, such as those required in the production of components such as battery cells, display panels and solar modules.

The new IRB 930 is equipped with the ABB OmniCore controller. Thanks to TrueMove and QuickMove technology, this offers first-class motion control in combination with integrated connectivity and scalable functions. The robot achieves a cycle time of 0.38 seconds and a repeat accuracy of 0.01 millimetres - enabling an increase in production rates while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Together with the IRB 910INV, IRB 920 and IRB 920T, the IRB 930 completes ABB's range of SCARA robots for customers with payload requirements of three to 22 kilograms. The SCARAs are suitable for use in various sectors such as the packaging and manufacturing industries, where pick & place and assembly tasks with high speed and repeat accuracy are required.
