Order-picking technology

on the individual object. TORU Cube is optimized for cuboid objects such as books, boxes or shoe boxes.

New features and improved performance

Compared to the prototype, a lot has changed: the new TORU Cube can not only pick books, but also larger cuboid objects - from a small paperback book to a shoe box to a heavy encyclopaedia or a box of screws. Another new feature is the mobile, removable picking shelf with variable levels, in which TORU can temporarily store 15-20 average-sized books or other cuboid items. With its extendable and rotatable lifting column, TORU Cube is able to pick objects at a height of 10 cm to 209 cm. This allows the robot to serve both the bottom and top shelf compartments of standard shelving racks. The new feature of the rotating lifting column also makes it possible to pick from both sides of an aisle. Compared to the TORU prototype, TORU Cube is significantly faster in the warehouse and object recognition using the Sheet of Light process developed by Magazino now also works reliably. In addition, the picking performance of the TORU Cube has been further increased.

First delivery of TORU Cube to pilot customers

After two successful test runs at publishing house Sigloch in Blaufelden, the first two TORU Cubes will be delivered to the pilot customer in mid-March. There, the autonomous picking robot will support employees in picking special specialist books and scientific publications. Further projects are already being planned. Over the next few months, for example, TORU Cube will be used in a shoe warehouse to automatically store and retrieve orders for shoe boxes.
