42% are already working in their profession or are looking for a qualified position. 32% are also prepared to work below their qualification level. 16% rate their opportunities on the German labor market as low. Only 10 percent see no prospect of working or have no interest.

"Ukrainians are predominantly highly qualified," says Tetyana Panchenko, a specialist at the ifo Center for International Institutional Comparisons and Migration Research. 71 percent of those surveyed stated that they had a university degree. 12 percent have vocational training.

"The age structure also explains why Ukrainians are looking for work so often," says Panchenko. 72 percent of respondents are between 30 and 49 years old, 11 percent between 18 and 29. 93 percent of respondents are women. 65 percent of those surveyed are married or living in a partnership. However, only 12 percent of women brought their partner with them to Germany.

In the next two years, 52 percent want to stay in Germany, 46 percent want to return to Ukraine and only two percent want to move to another country.

The ifo Institute's survey ran from May 23 to June 6, 2022 and respondents were mainly contacted via social media. In addition, refugees in Munich and the surrounding area were interviewed in person. As there is no general data on refugees to date, the survey cannot be representative.
