KION inaugurates plant in India
The KION Group has inaugurated its new plant - India's largest production facility for intralogistics equipment - at the Pune site in the state of Maharashtra. The plant, which covers an area of around 25 hectares, manufactures diesel and electric forklift trucks as well as battery-powered pallet trucks and reach trucks.
The plant is equipped with a total of three assembly lines including a paint shop, parts warehouse and a research and development center, where the changing requirements and trends of the Indian market are to be evaluated and corresponding future products developed.
The plant also has a 700-kilowatt-amp solar power system to generate energy and its own processes to save water and reduce waste. "The KION Group has recognized the growth opportunities in India and is continuing to invest in this market. We are aware that the Indian market is growing very fast and especially the demand for high-performance products, which the KION Group is a leader in, is increasing," said CP Quek, Chief Asia Pacific Officer and member of the Executive Board of KION Group AG, during the official celebrations.
The investment volume is around 15 million euros. The intralogistics provider is thus creating more than 100 jobs at its Indian site. The new plant is scheduled to go into operation at the beginning of 2020. "The new plant underscores our long-term commitment to India - and our dedication to our customers, suppliers, sales partners and employees," emphasized Sunil K. Gupta, President of KION India. The KION Group has been present in India since 2011.
