Forklift truck

Intralogistics for metalworking company

Kalmar has equipped the Dirostahl company in Remscheid with six large forklift trucks from the current DCG series. The 25- and 18-ton trucks unload wagons and trucks, carry out loading operations and supply the production department with raw parts directly on the forks or using roller pallets.

To do this, the continuous casting is first loaded onto the single-axle roller pallets and then picked up by the forklift using the entry pocket of the gooseneck. A challenge for the 25-tonne truck: the loaded roll pallets weighing up to 15 tons have to be pushed up a 72-metre-long ramp with a 7% incline. The improved electronics of the DCG series are also helpful here. It is a fast, intelligent and stable system that makes the truck user-friendly and reliable. The electronics require significantly fewer connection points and cables, which reduces the frequency of errors and increases operational reliability. The electronics include redundant CAN bus technology (Controller Area Network). It monitors the status and performance of the engine, transmission, valves and attachments: at 500 measuring points, 50 times per second.

This means that the truck and engine components remain operational even in the worst-case scenario. The CAN bus provides continuous status monitoring data via a 3.5-inch display at eye level in the cab. The variable pumps of the load-sensing hydraulics automatically detect the load during each work cycle and adjust the oil flow accordingly, enabling faster lifting cycles with reduced fuel consumption. The electrics and hydraulics are closely networked and ensure shorter response times, faster lifting speeds and increased control. This combination helps the operator to increase productivity while consuming less fuel. A new cooling system increases the available operating time and the operational reliability of the DCG90-180. It helps to keep the temperature in the engine compartment lower, which extends the service life of the engine, hydraulics and electrical assemblies.
