Groundbreaking ceremony in Taicang: Schmalz builds China headquarters

The ground-breaking ceremony in November marked the start of construction of the new China headquarters of vacuum specialist Schmalz. Sustainable, modern administration, logistics and production buildings are being built in Taicang, north-east of the Chinese business metropolis of Shanghai, which will become the hub of Schmalz China's business.

Around a year ago, the company acquired a 26,000 square meter plot of land in the "Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Taicang", around 50 kilometers northwest of Shanghai. The new headquarters of Schmalz China, an important sales and production company of the Schmalz Group, is being built here. The production and logistics building as well as a three-storey office offer a total floor space of around 7,500 square meters. There is also space for a showroom, meeting rooms and a modern company restaurant for around 120 employees.

In addition to practical benefits, sustainability is also a focus in new construction. The buildings are not only being constructed in a resource-saving manner. They also have a large photovoltaic system with an output of 280 kWp for an environmentally friendly energy supply. The buildings are cooled using geothermal energy. "With our new location, we are ideally equipped for further growth in the emerging Chinese market and can provide our customers with optimum support on site. This is an important success factor for the future of the Schmalz Group and a commitment to China as a business location," reports Andreas Beutel, Managing Director of J. Schmalz GmbH. The company plans to move in in fall 2021.

The right location for long-term growth

The "Taicang Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone" offers Schmalz very good conditions - more than 300 German companies are now based in Taicang, a city of 500,000 inhabitants in Jiangsu Province. "Taicang is not only a preferred production location for many German SMEs, but has also developed into an important research hotspot. We can only benefit from networking with these companies," explains Dr. Kurt Schmalz, Managing Partner of J. Schmalz GmbH.
