Total costs firmly under control in logistics planning
TGW Logistics Group experts recommend taking a close look at the total cost of ownership (TCO) when planning a logistics center. The early focus on TCO in the course of business planning includes forecasting developments and savings based on concrete figures over several years.

Our customers want a reliable, flexible, durable and high-performance logistics system. The technology should support them in their plans and still be strong and expandable in the future. They are looking for an intelligent overall solution where they know what to expect, both technically and commercially. At TGW, we offer all this and much more - because we examine the system from all perspectives in order to be able to offer our customers a reliable and future-proof overall package," says Christoph Wolkerstorfer, Chief Sales Officer of the TGW Logistics Group.
Together with the customer, TGW analyzes the existing business data, planning and material flow to find the optimal solution. Every TGW solution is based on high-performance automated systems, including stacker cranes, shuttles, picking modules, conveyor technology and sorters. In combination with a flexible and intelligent warehouse management and warehouse control system, these components result in a complete logistics solution that drastically reduces the total cost of ownership for the customer's intralogistics. The early consideration of the total cost of ownership over the lifetime of a system makes the difference. In addition to the investment costs of a system, TGW also considers the costs for ongoing operation and strives to minimize these in the interests of the customer.
Christoph Wolkerstorfer explains: "TGW is responsible for the development, planning and implementation of the 360-degree logistics solution. After a careful analysis of the processes and requirements, a solution is created based on powerful TGW modules and the TGW Software Suite. This allows our customers to concentrate on their core business. At the same time, we ensure a smooth material flow and, depending on the system, reduce the total cost of ownership by up to 50 percent."
Well calculated: CAPEX and OPEX
The total costs are made up of the initial capital expenditure (CAPEX) and the ongoing operating costs (OPEX). The ongoing operating costs include personnel costs for system operation, energy consumption, spare parts as well as maintenance and upgrades of software and hardware over the entire service life of a logistics solution. By consistently focusing on TCO, TGW reduces these costs right from the start, developing and implementing customized operating strategies for the customer. Thanks to the 360-degree perspective, all aspects are planned for the long term.
Even a highly automated intralogistics solution cannot function entirely without personnel. The number of people required depends heavily on the degree of automation. With the customer's employees in mind, TGW attaches great importance to ergonomic design for better working conditions, minimized risk of injury and higher productivity.
