Thanks to the positive developments in the international mail order business, the number of parcels to be processed at the IPZ in Frankfurt is also increasing. Siemens supports Deutsche Post in processing international shipments in various shapes and weight categories. To ensure optimum working conditions on the conveyor belts, Siemens will also be installing ergonomic workstations, which were previously tested under real conditions at the Siemens Logistics Test Center in Nuremberg. The initial equipment for the IPZ was supplied by Siemens and is being modernized on an ongoing basis.

"With this new order, we are building on a proven and reliable partnership with Deutsche Post," said Michael Reichle, CEO of Siemens Logistics. "With our VarioSort and ARTread software, we are helping our customers to process incoming and outgoing parcels precisely and significantly faster."

The new order includes the VarioSort crossbelt sorter, which achieves a peak throughput of over 18,000 parcels per hour at a maximum speed of over 2 meters per second. Even very small and light items from 20 grams are sorted. The VarioSort is configurable. The ARTread software uses Optical Character Recognition to read and interpret address information, logos and labels.
