UR expands its portfolio with a cobot with a load capacity of 20 kg

Universal Robots (UR), the Danish manufacturer of collaborative robots, announces the expansion of its product portfolio to include a cobot with a payload capacity of 20 kg.

Called the UR20, the cobot features a new design based on Universal Robots' many years of engineering experience. It is the latest addition to the company's proven product portfolio.

With its equally new joint design, the UR20 achieves shorter cycle times and handles loads weighing up to 20 kg. A reach of 1,750 mm enables the cobot to stack parts up to the full height of a standard Euro pallet of two meters. This expands the possibilities for companies that want to automate tasks such as packaging and palletizing. Where applications require a large working radius with limited space, the UR20 offers users a footprint of just 245 mm in diameter.

In addition to palletizing, Universal Robots sees a wide range of other possible applications for the UR20, from welding to machine loading. The company's extensive partner network will develop these applications.

"This is not just a bigger, but a redefined version of our cobot. The UR20 is the most innovative cobot we've ever built and the latest advancement from 17 years of engineering experience in the robotics industry," says Kim Povlsen, President of Universal Robots. "Our accomplished engineers have completely redesigned the robotic arm while maintaining the intuitive user interface we have long been known for. The benefits of the UR20 are significant - from shorter cycle times and the ability to handle heavier loads to a longer reach in a small footprint. We have also significantly optimized the software, so users can expect unparalleled performance in motion control," Povlsen continues.

Universal Robots launched the world's first commercially viable cobot in 2008. Since then, the company has built an ecosystem of more than 1,100 integrators, distributors and independent partners who develop components and applications around the robots. To date, Universal Robots has sold more than 50,000 cobots and draws on the experience of an established customer base to develop its latest product.

The UR20 also marks the launch of a new series of powerful next-generation cobots that will complement the company's highly successful e-Series.

"Our commitment to the success of every customer is reflected in the demands we place on our newly developed products. The UR20 is the best example of this," explains Povlsen. "We are committed to first-class quality, Scandinavian design and unparalleled user-friendliness - from the software to the joint caps," explains Povlsen, adding: "The UR20 is just the beginning. We are launching our next generation first with this heavy-duty model because it enables our customers to automate new tasks end-to-end. The next step will be to bring the same features to a new family of cobots. Stay tuned - we can't wait to show you what the future holds."
