41,000 pallet spaces
SSI Schäfer supplies heavy-duty mobile racking system to Offergeld Logistik
The logistics service provider Offergeld Logistik favored a space-saving, sustainable and dynamic solution for storing a maximum number of load carriers in a confined space. SSI Schaefer supplied the solution in the form of a heavy-duty mobile racking system.
The mobile racking system, which is exceptional in terms of capacity and storage density, will be integrated into a new hall that the logistics service provider has built in Dormagen in order to centralize several warehouses and to streamline and align processes more efficiently as throughput increases. As an intralogistics partner, SSI Schaefer is supporting Offergeld in this reorganization and impressed with a solution concept tailored to the specifications and structural conditions.
Since its foundation in 1924, the Offergeld Group has grown continuously in line with customer requirements and is now represented throughout Europe with 15 branches. In optimized supply and value chains, the logistics service provider assumes responsibility for the often highly sensitive processes of its customers in the areas of procurement, warehousing, transport, value-added services (VAS) and distribution.
Long-term partnership planned for the future
Minimized costs, short throughput times, lean processes and end-to-end transparency along the supply chain are decisive factors that are incorporated into Offergeld's individually designed logistics solutions. In order to further optimize processes in times of growing cost pressure and dynamically changing market conditions, the service provider is now centralizing several warehouses at the Dormagen site in a new 9,600 m² building. The quick response to the request and the solution concept presented were among the decisive factors in commissioning SSI Schaefer to supply and install the heavy-duty mobile racking system. "As a family-run company, we offer modern services from a single source and score points with solid values and short decision-making processes. This orientation also characterizes SSI Schaefer, so that the best conditions for a long-term partnership are given," says Philipp Kreuer, authorized signatory of Offergeld Zentralverwaltung (OVZ) GmbH & Co KG, Würselen. André Schmidt, Project Sales SSI Schaefer, adds: "We are pleased to be able to support the further expansion of Offergeld on this basis, initially with a service module tailored to current requirements, which contributes to sustainably reducing process and operating costs with increased performance."
Flexible solution with high storage density in a small space
As a first step, SSI Schaefer is installing a heavy-duty mobile racking system in the new logistics center with 41,000 pallet storage locations for varying products, including those from the industrial and automotive sectors. This solution offers space savings of up to 45% compared to stationary rows of racking. At the same time, the use of the mobile racking system increases storage capacity by up to 90%, as significantly fewer traffic areas are required. The system consists of five blocks, is around 125 meters long and 67 meters wide. The top pallet is set down at a height of around 11 meters. In this way, a particularly high storage density can be achieved, which would not be possible using stationary rows of racks given the limited space available in the warehouse. The process and energy costs are also more moderate. The modular mobile racking system is scalable and can be expanded at any time in conjunction with an extension if capacity requirements increase.
Rail installation and racking insertion have begun, with commissioning scheduled for October 2021. As part of the continuous improvement process, Offergeld Logistik is also examining the option of using an automated guided vehicle system (AGV) for large load carriers at the Dormagen site, which SSI Schaefer offers exclusively from a single source in combination with a mobile racking system. The number of autonomously operating vehicles in the network can also be flexibly increased as performance requirements increase.
