Growth expected
Pierau Planung takes over contract logistics tender for foodforplanet
foodforplanet GmbH & Co KG, part of the family-owned company Erbacher the food family, which specializes in premium food for livestock and pets as well as high-quality food, enlisted the support of Pierau Planung to answer the question of the right logistics. The Hamburg-based logistics experts drew up the tender documents and coordinated the commissioning of a service provider who would be responsible for dispatch processing, including stockholding and returns processing for new European target markets, as well as gradually taking over for existing markets.
For more than 75 years, Erbacher the food family has stood for experience and innovation. With the entry of its Josera petfood brand into the e-commerce business, own brands and selected accessories for dogs, cats and horses are sold very successfully via the Internet - by foodforplanet, a sales company for new business models and internal marketing service provider founded in 2012.
At the company headquarters in Kleinheubach/Bavaria, general cargo such as POS and promotional items are stored in addition to B2C sales items. The storage area currently consists of pallet storage locations and cardboard goods are stored in shelving racks. Both order picking and processing at the packing stations are carried out manually.
New strength for the B2C business
In the medium term, annual growth of 20 to 30 percent is expected in outgoing shipments. In order to be prepared for this, foodforplanet took the right measures at an early stage: The B2C business was to be handled by a new external service provider. This service provider not only had to provide the capacity to implement the business on an international level, but also to gradually take over the existing markets. "Because a lot depends on the right choice of contract logistics provider, especially financially, we were quickly convinced that Pierau Planung was the right partner for us due to its extensive experience in this task," says Benjamin Arnold, CEO of foodforplanet.
Ongoing international expansion with consistently high quality and customer focus - goals of foodforplanet that can only be achieved if the external service provider goes along with them. For the Hamburg-based team of consultants led by senior consultant Dirk Wohlgemuth, this initially meant drawing up a project-related list of questions containing the basis for a service provider tender for contract logistics. "After collecting the development data for the tender, we carried out an ACTUAL analysis of the current logistics process and, in consultation with our client, a TARGET analysis to determine requirements," explains project manager Dirk Wohlgemuth. "Once we had submitted our proposals, subsequent requests for quotations and a final recommendation of potential providers on this basis, we quickly made a clear decision in favor of LOEWE Logistics & Care." The service provider from Herford/North Rhine-Westphalia had put a new section of the warehouse into operation, providing foodforplanet with more than sufficient storage space for its current business and for smooth processing in the future. "The transition between the remaining term of the existing service provider relationship and the go-live of the new service provider contract went perfectly," concludes Benjamin Arnold. "Together with Loewe Logistics & Care and Pierau Planung, we have successfully laid the foundations for further growth."
