In the yard

New Kamag Wiesel in operation at Wilfried Maier Speditionsgesellschaft

The new Wiesel from KAMAG Transporttechnik is providing its services to Wilfried Maier Speditionsgesellschaft from Achern. For the past six months, the Wiesel has been working in the yard at the Duravit central warehouse. Maier fleet manager Detlef Kaspar particularly appreciates the Wiesel's universal and economical usability in container and trailer handling, the excellent ergonomics of the workplace and the successful design of the new cab.

"I can't find an alternative to the new KAMAG Wiesel on the market," explains Detlef Kaspar, fleet and scheduling manager at Wilfried Maier - Speditionsgesellschaft mbH & Co KG. "We can move all load carriers to and from the ramp with this swap body pallet truck. We simply drive everything with the Wiesel - from swap bodies in different sizes and with different parking heights to semi-trailers and trailers," says Kaspar, who is married to the Managing Director of the forwarding company Susanne Maier-Kaspar, summarizing the strengths of the Wiesel. Other, comparable products could not offer this. Six months ago, Maier had already received the Wiesel from KAMAG, a company of the Transporter Industry International Group (TII Group) owned by the Otto Rettenmaier family of entrepreneurs. The Ulm-based manufacturer of special vehicles has only just officially presented the new Wiesel at the transport logistic trade fair. "Maier received the first new Wiesel from us to put it through its paces. We have been officially selling the new model since the trade fair," says Jürgen Dirr, Area Manager Sales for the Logistics division of the joint sales organization TII Sales.

In addition to transportation, Wilfried Maier Speditionsgesellschaft also handles the yard service for Duravit, manufacturer of bathroom furniture and ceramics, at the central warehouse in Achern. The Wiesel works there in three shifts. And this is precisely why Maier needs a handling vehicle that is both robust and reliable, but also comfortable for the driver. The previous model was also part of Maier's ultra-modern fleet. Trained vehicle mechanic Detlef Kaspar was already highly satisfied with the previous model. However, the vehicle was now eight years old and had 28,000 operating hours or the equivalent of one million kilometers on the clock. Apart from regular maintenance, no repairs had been carried out, with one exception, but you never know after such a long service life whether wear and tear will soon take its toll, explains fleet manager Kaspar.

After test drives with comparable products from the competition, he was certain that the replacement would once again be a KAMAG Wiesel. In addition to its high stability, the fleet manager was impressed by the swap body lift truck's extraordinary versatility. The Wiesel shoulders all standard container sizes, from C715 and C745 to C782 jumbo bridges, whereby the standard stops are rigid for C782 containers and adjustable for the two smaller sizes. They are locked using two height-adjustable twist locks. The KAMAG swap body pallet truck is also extremely flexible when it comes to parking heights. It accommodates bridges with parking heights from 970 to 1,320 millimetres.
