In 2018, MAN Truck & Bus increased its revenue by 8% year-on-year to €10.8 billion. Unit sales increased by around 14% to more than 102,500 units, while order intake recorded strong growth of 20%. The company not only benefited from increased demand, MAN was also able to gain market share in both trucks and buses.

Joachim Drees, Chairman of the Executive Board, is satisfied with the development: "The high order intake and, above all, the increased market share show that we are on the right track. Customers have confidence in our technologies, our products and our service - for trucks, buses and vans. Continuous improvement and operational excellence are the prerequisites for ensuring future growth and achieving our profitability targets. With our current investments in research and development, new technologies and new, innovative products, we are ensuring the long-term competitiveness of our trucks, buses and vans."

However, MAN Truck & Bus recorded a decline in operating profit, which fell to €402 million. The return on sales was 3.7% in 2018. The Trucks business increased its unit sales by 7% compared to the previous year. At the same time, MAN increased its market share in this segment by almost one percentage point to 16.5%. In total, MAN Truck & Bus sold 95,352 trucks in the reporting year (including 7,871 MAN TGE vans). Joachim Drees: "With our current models MAN TGX for long-distance transport, MAN TGS for weight-sensitive transport, MAN TGM for heavy-duty distribution transport and MAN TGL for light-duty distribution transport, we offer the right solutions for our customers' needs - both in terms of performance and reliability as well as total cost of ownership."

The Buses division performed particularly well in 2018, increasing its sales to 7,204 vehicles. Göran Nyberg, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing: "In recent years, we have succeeded in transforming the bus business from a former problem child into a very successful division. In 2018, we were able to increase our market share to 14.5 percent. Our customers particularly appreciate the high level of reliability and safety, the excellent design, innovative technologies, a high level of comfort and comprehensive customer orientation in sales and service. With the NEOPLAN Tourliner and the MAN Lion's Coach, we have two top models in the coach segment. And we are also successfully launching our new city bus generation, the MAN Lion's City. It is a leader in terms of economy and, unlike many competitors, is also designed from the outset for the all-electric drive, which we will be launching in series production in 2020."

The latest product in the MAN portfolio, the MAN TGE van, also performed far better than expected. Göran Nyberg is delighted: "With incoming orders of 10,000 units and 7,871 vehicles delivered, we have far exceeded our targets for the van. The MAN TGE, with its wide range of models from 3.5 to 5.5 tons gross vehicle weight, its advanced safety equipment and its large selection of body variants and industry solutions, is a true MAN - comfortable, robust, reliable and economical."
