Schwarzmüller does the math

Martin Schrüfer,

Long semi-trailer ten percent more efficient

After selling more than 100 units, Schwarzmüller is taking stock of the Lang semi-trailer, which was launched on the German market for the first time in 2019. CEO Roland Hartwig is satisfied that the concept as a lightweight vehicle with significant load and emission advantages has paid off.

In his opinion, the Schwarzmüller Lang saddle is an excellent example of the company's strategic path of focusing more on premium than standard, even in long-distance vehicles. "With our Lang saddle, we are proving that imagination doesn't stop with standard products. If you want intelligent technology and more performance, you can get it from Schwarzmüller." With this vehicle type, the Austrian premium manufacturer primarily serves the automotive sector, the bulk goods sector and generally all industries in which volume transport plays a major role.

The backbone of the vehicle, which was redesigned for the market launch, is its lightweight construction. With a tare weight of 5,300 kilograms, the extended semi-trailer is the lightest vehicle on the market, says Schwarzmüller. Hartwig is proud that his long semi-trailer weighs around 1,000 kilograms less than its competitors. This performance optimization is made possible by the welded frame. At the same time, the wheelbase was extended and the three axles of the trailer were positioned further back, thus reducing the overhang.

This design has an impact on the vehicle's performance. The trailer, which has been enlarged by four pallet spaces and has a maximum loading area of 14.98 meters, allows a saving of 1,000 kilograms of tare weight and thus a reduction in fuel consumption of more than ten percent, which reduces CO2 emissions by the same amount. Alternatively, the vehicle opens up new prospects for cargo, as one tonne more can be transported per journey. The potential savings result from the lower weight. To transport around 10,000 pallets from A to B, 303 journeys are required with a conventional articulated truck.
required. With the type 1 long semi-trailer, only 270 journeys are required, i.e. more than ten percent less.

Schwarzmüller has all five types of long truck with lengths between 17.88 and 25.25 meters in its range. In the years of legal trial operation, the type 1 long semi-trailer with an overall length of 17.88 meters has clearly proven to be the most promising, Hartwig sums up. In contrast to the four longer types, this one is still in trial operation in Germany, but is expected to be
However, approval for the entire German road network is expected from 2024, when international, cross-border approval should also be granted, Hartwig hopes. The Schwarzmüller Lang semi-trailer is available in the General Cargo, Coil, Paper, Mega and Moving Floor variants, whereby all required load securing certificates are fulfilled. The vehicle can also be equipped with
The vehicle can also be equipped with a quick-opening Quickslider tarpaulin.
