Leyland Trucks builds the 200,000th DAF LF
On December 15, Leyland Trucks celebrated the production of the two hundred thousandth DAF LF chassis. This milestone was reached at the UK plant, where all DAF LFs and the DAF CF and XF series are manufactured, mainly for right-hand drive markets.
The anniversary LF is a 7.5-tonner with 170 hp, which rolled off the production line for inner-city transportation. The distribution vehicle will be delivered to the British transport company EVTS from Blackpool. EVTS is a long-standing DAF customer that specializes in the on-time delivery of pallets within the UK and operates a fleet of more than 30 vehicles and 50 trailers. The anniversary vehicle is part of a larger order of nine trucks, including two additional LF City 7.5 tonners, two CF tractor units and four XF tractor units with Super Space Cab.
Urban distribution transport for pallets
The 200,000th LF is put into service for urban pallet distribution in the North West of England. It is equipped with a 170 hp Paccar PX-4 engine and a Paccar curtainsider body designed by Leyland Trucks and manufactured on its own production line.
The DAF LF series, with a gross vehicle weight of 7.5 to 19 tons, is suitable for a wide range of applications. Among other things, it is suitable for urban distribution transport and is characterized by good manoeuvrability, agile handling, a spacious cab and a chassis platform that offers bodybuilders a high degree of flexibility.
The first LF chassis rolled off the Leyland Trucks production line in 2001. Since then, the multi-award-winning DAF distribution truck has won the International Truck of the Year award in 2002 and has also won the UK Fleet Truck of the Year award several times, most recently in 2019. Today's LF product range includes engine outputs from 150 to 320 hp, manual and automatic transmission options, extended variants with Day Cabs and Sleeper Cabs and an extensive choice of wheelbases to suit requirements.
"We are very proud to have reached this important milestone not only in the history of the DAF LF, but also in the history of Leyland Trucks," said Brennan Gourdie, Managing Director of Leyland Trucks. "This important goal represents the excellence of the truck itself and also reflects the industry-leading quality that our 1,000 dedicated employees deliver to our international customers every day."
