The battery-electric Nikola TRE, which is based on the Iveco S-Way and integrates Nikola technology, will be officially presented at the IAA 2020 in Hanover. The first units are due to be delivered to customers in 2021.

The Nikola TRE is the first step towards the Nikola Fuel Cell Electric Model (FCEV), which will be available to customers from 2023. Iveco, FPT Industrial and Nikola unveiled the model of the Nikola TRE, the first vehicle to emerge from the joint venture between CNH Industrial and Nikola.

The vehicle is based on the IVECO S-WAY heavy-duty truck presented in Madrid in July. The Nikola TRE integrates Nikola's drive technology and infotainment system. The integration of the Nikola design on the Iveco S-Way architecture was carried out jointly by Nikola and Italdesign at their headquarters in Moncalieri (Turin). The project is a natural consequence of a partnership between the two companies dating back to 2018, which has already produced the first model of the Nikola TRE, presented during the Nikola World Event in April 2019 in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA.

Gerrit Marx, President of Commercial and Specialty Vehicles, said: "The IVECO S-WAY is an outstanding product that embodies IVECO's concept of customer orientation and is already a great success in the markets. It is the foundation of the Nikola TRE and marks the beginning of a new journey towards zero-emission trucking. It provides us with the platform to introduce disruptive features that will change the transportation industry. "
