Edison and IVECO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to drive the development of sustainable gas mobility and further promote the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Italian road freight transportation. The agreement is based on the recognition of the fundamental role that G-mobility (LNG and CNG mobility) plays in the process of Italy's decarbonization and builds on the unique position that both companies occupy in the challenge of the energy transition: Edison as a vertically integrated operator along the entire LNG value chain, dedicated to bio-methane, and IVECO as a leading manufacturer of gas-powered commercial vehicles.

"In October last year, we completed the first integrated LNG logistics chain to support sustainable mobility in Italy, thanks to a small coastal storage facility that came on stream in Ravenna and an LNG transport ship responsible for supply. Today we are taking a further step on the strategic path of decarbonizing transport in line with European and Italian climate targets. By joining forces and working with a major group like IVECO, we can accelerate the conversion of fleets and the process of energy transition in Italy and worldwide," explains Nicola Monti, CEO of Edison.

It is a first but important step towards the decarbonization of road freight transport, and our pioneering work in this area has paid off: We are now the market leader with a 55% market share of LNG trucks in Europe. The collaboration between IVECO and Edison will give an additional boost to sustainable mobility, which will be reinforced by the gradual introduction of biomethane in the project's development plan. IVECO already offers a near CO2-neutral technology for heavy-duty trucks when powered by renewable biomethane.
