Martin Schrüfer,

"Besser Lackieren Award" for Krone

At the "Besser Lackieren" congress, Fahrzeugwerk Krone received an award for its new, innovative surface center (OFZ) at the Werlte site. The expert jury, made up of the specialist editorial team from Besser Lackieren magazine and representatives from the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, honored top performance in the painting segment. Krone was able to score points in all aspects: Economy, ecology, sustainability and future viability. During a visit to Werlte, representatives of the jury were informed in detail about the innovative and sustainable technology at the OFZ.

Volker Perk, Head of Industrial Engineering at the Krone Commercial Vehicle Group, accepted the award on behalf of the Krone team. In a short presentation, he introduced the technical features of the ultra-modern surface center, which Krone only officially put into operation in August 2018, to around 120 participants at the congress.

At the OFZ, chassis for semi-trailers are cathodically dip-painted and powder-coated to provide maximum protection against environmental influences. The new surface sealing offers outstanding value retention and high investment protection for customers, as Krone trailers are weather-resistant and durable in accordance with the latest requirements.

Production in the new OFZ saves energy and resources and significantly reduces emissions. The German Energy Agency (Dena) has already recognized the Krone plant as a lighthouse project for the energy-efficient use of waste heat. Carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by more than 30 percent per chassis. At the same time, 12.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity are saved per year. Krone invested around 40 million euros in the OFZ.
