SSi Schäfer implements distribution center for Premier Farnell
SSI Schaefer, a global market leader in intralogistics, has announced the signing of a contract with Premier Farnell, a global distributor of technology products and solutions, to equip its new logistics center in Leeds with a state-of-the-art order fulfillment solution.
Construction work on the 33,000 m² distribution center at the Logic Leeds site began on 29 March. The logistics center will be the largest warehouse in Leeds and is due to be completed by the end of the year. The main contractor is Bowmer & Kirkland from Derbyshire. The facility should be fully operational by the end of 2019 / beginning of 2020.
SSI Schaefer worked closely with Premier Farnell for almost two years to develop a solution that would not only enable the company to keep pace with increasing business demands, but also deliver a high return on investment. At the heart of the fully integrated solution is SSI Schaefer's highly efficient Navette matrix system, which utilizes vertical storage machines and conveyor lines based on a traditional rack and pallet warehouse. All elements of the solutions are controlled by the SSI Schaefer Warehouse Management System WAMAS®. The processes are designed to take into account product characteristics and the applicable guidelines for handling and storing the products.
Nick Wilkins, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Premier Farnell emphasizes: "This contract with SSI Schaefer is a significant milestone in the warehouse modernization at the Premier Farnell Group to position the company for future growth. The basis of our success is the fulfillment of market-leading delivery promises. Thanks to our partnership with SSI Schaefer, we can continue to deliver this service, supplying our network of eight additional warehouses worldwide and developing key value-adding services for our customers directly from the warehouse operation. We are very pleased with the collaboration."
Jaap Vos, Managing Director at SSI Schaefer, explains: "We are delighted to partner with Premier Farnell. By supplying an advanced system to improve and support operational processes, we have the opportunity to develop solutions for future requirements."
