Marvin Meyke,

Norway's largest furniture chain automates with Jungheinrich

According to Bohus, it is Norway's leading furniture and interior design chain. The company operates 60 stores and an online store in Norway. In order to adapt to changes in the retail sector, the furniture chain is currently investing in IT and network solutions as well as warehouse logistics. To this end, the company has commissioned Jungheinrich to set up a central warehouse in Lillestrom near the capital Oslo.

When designing the warehouse, the aim was to guarantee Bohus the greatest possible flexibility in handling its wide range of product categories and load sizes. In addition to a manual warehouse with space for up to 2,000 pallets, the solution therefore includes a fully automated high-bay warehouse with 10,000 storage locations in three aisles for Euro pallets and a further 1,200 storage locations for special pallets measuring 2,600 mm x 1,260 mm in two additional aisles. Storage and retrieval is handled by stacker cranes from Jungheinrich subsidiary Mias, which are equipped with telescopic forks. Two Jungheinrich STC 2B1A miniloads are used in the automated small parts warehouse with a total of 22,000 storage locations. All subsystems are controlled by the Jungheinrich WCS, which is connected to the customer's SAP system.

"The furniture industry is a conservative and demanding industry. Over the past 50 years, Bohus has developed into Norway's largest nationwide furniture chain. We sell shape, color and design and not all of our products fit into square boxes, so we were looking for a flexible solution that would be able to meet our requirements. Jungheinrich has worked with us to create a unique solution that we are delighted with," says Håkon Bredde-Prytz, Managing Director of Bohus Logistikk AS.
