JYSK grows together with SSI Schäfer

Neunkirchen, 20.10.2016 -

Danish furniture retailer JYSK is building a fourth high-bay warehouse to expand its storage capacity. With this step, the company wants to meet the increasing demand and unite all JYSK products under one roof. The intralogistics solution for this comes from Germany: from SSI Schaefer.

SSI Schaefer, solution provider for modular storage and logistics systems, has been commissioned with the expansion of JYSK's distribution center in Uldum, Denmark. With its three interconnected high-bay warehouses (HBW) and two small parts warehouses, the distribution center is already one of the largest in Denmark. Now the center is to be extended by a further HBW.

The fourth HBW will be the largest in the distribution center and will be characterized by higher capacity and efficiency compared to the three existing ones. SSI Schaefer Exyz storage and retrieval machines will be used to store and retrieve the pallets. The scope of the order also includes conveyor technology and a new incoming and outgoing goods area in which the pallets are transferred to automated guided vehicles (AGVs). SSI Schaefer will also optimize the flow between all four high-bay warehouses and convert the JYSK systems to SSI Schaefer's logistics software.

E-commerce is currently causing many companies to look at their supply chain in a new light. Lars B. Madsen, Sales Director for Northern and Eastern Europe at SSI Schaefer, explains the background: "In the past, companies packed a few, but larger orders on pallets to deliver them to their stores. Today, due to increasing sales from e-commerce, they also have to pack large order quantities with just a few order lines, which are then sent directly to the paying customer. To meet this challenge, it is crucial to have an efficient warehouse solution. JYSK is already seeing a significant increase in its e-commerce business. We are helping the company to prepare for further changes in the future by connecting the entire warehouse site to a dedicated area for its e-commerce orders."

"For us, it was quite logical that SSI Schaefer would be our partner in the expansion of Uldum," says Allan K. Kjærsgaard, Executive Vice President - Logistics, JYSK. The distribution center is the result of the collaboration between the two companies, as SSI Schaefer was already the general contractor for the turnkey handover of Uldum in 2007. Since then, SSI Schaefer and JYSK have repeatedly cooperated, including on a 100,000 m² fully automated logistics center in Poland and a warehouse expansion of the distribution center in Nässjö, Sweden.

The expansion work will start in December and should be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017. The completion of the work for the comprehensive optimization of the distribution center in Uldum is planned for 2018. The expansion of the warehouse will increase JYSK's total pallet capacity to 215,000 items. red
