Jungheinrich wins largest single lithium-ion order

Hamburg, 28.07.2017 - The intralogistics group Jungheinrich has received a major order for more than 1,000 lithium-ion trucks. The order is the largest ever placed worldwide for industrial trucks with lithium-ion batteries.
In terms of order volume, this is Jungheinrich's largest truck order in its approximately 65-year history. The major international customer, whose name has not been disclosed, will equip warehouses and dispatch centers in the UK, France, Italy and Germany with the trucks in the coming months.
According to Jungheinrich, it is currently the only manufacturer of industrial trucks in the world that produces its own lithium-ion batteries. Compared to conventional lead-acid batteries, the use of lithium-ion technology leads to an increase in performance. The batteries can communicate with the vehicle and charger. This results in high energy efficiency. The batteries are manufactured at the Norderstedt plant. Over the past three years, Jungheinrich has tripled its annual sales of lithium-ion batteries. Due to the continued strong growth in global demand, the Group plans to expand its production capacity.
"No other intralogistics brand in the world currently has more lithium-ion industrial trucks in operation than Jungheinrich. We are the technology leader in this field and set the standards. Only Jungheinrich offers an end-to-end system from the charger to the battery to the truck from a single source. Lithium-ion technology is the new standard for material handling equipment. The high performance of lithium-ion batteries makes it possible to electrify fields of application in which combustion engines are still the rule today," Dr. Brzoska is convinced.
In addition to performance, the advantages of lithium-ion technology include fast charging times, freedom from maintenance and a particularly long service life. Fast and short intermediate charges mean that the fleet can be used almost continuously within a week. Time-consuming battery changes are no longer necessary with lithium-ion batteries. There is no need to keep second batteries and changing devices in stock. As neither gases nor acids can escape from lithium-ion batteries, special charging rooms with extraction systems are no longer required.
