REMA TEC
"Check all parameters such as processes, throughputs, requirements, technical alternatives"
Peter Dippel, Managing Director of REMA TEC, on the right strategy for warehouse modernizations.
material flow: Where and with what do you start when it comes to the idea of modernization? What advice do you have for the logistics managers among our readers?
Peter Dippel: Modernization is only necessary and only makes sense if the age of a system becomes apparent (through susceptibility to faults), the processes have changed or changed customer requirements call the economic efficiency of the respective systems into question. If modernization is unavoidable, all parameters such as processes, throughputs, requirements, technical alternatives, etc. should be examined. Modernization can improve all these aspects and incorporate them into a new, forward-looking concept. It rarely makes sense to carry out a one-to-one modernization. When modernizing, it is also important to ensure that operations can continue during the modernization work. However, disruption during the conversion work is to be expected, which is why such complex measures are usually carried out outside the peak season.
mfl: Which of your company's products or services is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of modernization?
Dippel: Modernization must pay off! The aim is therefore to find a comparably affordable solution using the latest technology. The degree of automation can also be increased during a modernization measure. REMA TEC has a great deal of experience in these areas.
