Autonomous mobile robots

Daniel Schilling,

Standardized communication

In automation, Bosch Rexroth relies on open interfaces. Standards supported by many manufacturers are more durable and promote innovation. This is why the AMR Active Shuttle communicates via the standardized VDA 5050 interface.

This manufacturer-independent interface standardizes communication between a master controller and AMR and other AGVs (automated guided vehicles). It is the result of a collaboration between the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association. VDA 5050 simplifies the operation of mixed fleets with tractors, forklift trucks or AMR.

End users can assemble their fleet individually, regardless of manufacturer, and operate it "as a team" under a master control system. Standardization ensures full interoperability in day-to-day operations and the different vehicles can travel defined routes together.
