Knapp expands central warehouse of Diesel Technic
Knapp has been awarded the contract by Diesel Technic, a specialist for vehicle parts and accessories, to expand its central warehouse in Kirchdorf. Knapp's existing OSR Shuttle will be expanded to include two shuttle aisles and two Pick-it-Easy workstations.
Diesel Technic CEO Dr. Steffen Vondran and Knapp Managing Director Heimo Robosch signed the contract for the first automation project at CeMAT 2018. At that time, the shuttle solution, which has been in operation since the beginning of 2020, was already designed for growth. The expansion is therefore possible with very little intervention in the current system. Initially, the system consisted of 41,000 spaces and 5 Pick-it-Easy Shop workstations, but is now being expanded by two aisles and two workstations to a total of 62,000 spaces.
For Dr. Vondran, this is an important step in the further cooperation: "By introducing the Knapp AG shuttle system, we were able to significantly increase our logistics performance and efficiency and, as a result, customer satisfaction. The expansion of the shuttle represents the next logical step for future-oriented and reliable logistics. We are delighted to be able to take this path together with our partner, Knapp AG."
For future growth
Storage will continue to be 3-deep up to a height of 17 meters. This not only means additional storage spaces thanks to more shuttle aisles, but also a very high storage density. The vehicle parts are provided from the shuttle system and picked using the goods-to-person method. The additional workstations are also from the particularly ergonomically designed Pick-it-Easy series and enable intuitive and error-free operation.
"We are delighted to be able to continue our long-standing partnership with Diesel Technic by expanding the existing facility and supporting the company in its future growth plans," says Heiko Süss, Vice President Wholesale Knapp AG. The expansion work will be carried out at night and at weekends to ensure smooth operations during the construction phase. Go-live of the expansion project is planned for fall 2023.
