Omni-channel bookseller transforms supply chain
4flow, a provider of logistics consulting, SAP implementation, logistics software and 4PL services, is supporting Thalia Bücher GmbH, an omni-channel bookseller, in the implementation of its Log25 supply chain transformation program. The aim of the programme is to optimize, digitalize and automate Thalia's entire supply chain according to an omni-channel principle.
After supporting Thalia with the strategy since October 2023 and the conception since January 2024, 4flow is now actively supporting the implementation. "With the Thalia Supply Chain Transformation Program Log25, we are redesigning our supply chain to meet the complex requirements as a leading omni-channel bookseller in German-speaking countries. 4flow is supporting us as a trusted partner with many years of experience in transformation projects along the entire supply chain," explains Marco Rebohm, Managing Director Supply Chain & Logistics at Thalia.
Aiming for an optimal flow of information
Lennart Brueggemann von Ackern, Partner for Retail & Consumer Goods at 4flow consulting, adds: "The joint start of the implementation phase represents a further milestone in our close cooperation and once again underlines Thalia's trust in 4flow's supply chain expertise." With Log25, Thalia wants to ensure an optimal flow of information from the customer to the supplier with planning and control systems. In order to also expand its location structure, the book retailer is optimizing its existing service provider location in Hörselgau and building a new central warehouse location in Marl with a large Autostore and SAP EWM.
Another focus of Log25 is on the transport structure with the establishment of efficient and service-optimized transport management from the warehouse locations to the local bookstores in the cities. This involves optimizing, digitalizing and automating systems, processes and the organization with regard to an omni-channel supply chain, which is implemented both B2C in the web store and B2B to Thalia's own and partner bookstores.
Numerous subordinate projects
With the transformation to an omni-channel supply chain, Thalia is reducing its unit costs, optimizing the service level to the customer and expanding its services. 4flow supports Thalia as a partner in the supply chain transformation with solutions from strategy to implementation. In addition, Thalia and 4flow work together in collaborative teams in the subordinate projects. This includes:
- the realization of the new central warehouse in Marl in the areas of buildings and logistics
- Planning and implementation of the new print-on-demand center at the Marl site
- Implementation of the SAP EWM warehouse management system as an implementation partner
- the introduction of optimized supply chain planning and control structures in the dimensions of process, system and organization
- Planning and implementation of optimized transport management
- ongoing support in solving operational challenges along the supply chain
Cooperation and implementation of all project content is planned until the end of 2026.
