Efficiently manage tours and processes

With the aim of optimizing route planning and making processes between the warehouses and on the road more efficient, EF Logistik decided to implement the Greenplan Execution transportation management system from EPG (Ehrhardt Partner Group) back in summer 2021.

EF Logistik supplies car dealerships and garages throughout Germany with spare parts from twelve locations. Individual route planning, supported by digital process management, optimizes the logistics processes for different article types, short delivery times and high order volumes.

The route planning system, which is specially adapted to the needs of the logistics service provider, is supplemented by the route planning algorithm of the Greenplan Engine. In addition, the EPG-One app not only offers a digital solution for workflow design and process documentation, but also acts as a mobile interface between the dispatcher and the contracted carrier with automatic proof of delivery and an intuitive driver app.

EF Logistik, based in Stuttgart, handles more than 1,000 orders a day at its warehouse site in Kassel, which covers an area of over 10,000 square meters and serves up to 500 customers with a large number of different tours. These customers include garages that urgently need spare parts for repairs as well as wholesalers that need to replenish their stocks. In addition, the integration of returns into route planning is an increasingly important part of daily work. This leads to complex supply chains with tight schedules.

With its dynamic route planning, Greenplan Execution offers automotive retailers support in planning these daily routes. Dispatchers can define the optimum route calculation themselves based on weighted factors such as available vehicles, routes and customer specifications. In conjunction with the multi-award-winning routing algorithm of the Greenplan Engine, the time-of-day-dependent and road-specific traffic flow speeds are taken into account and the optimum route and the appropriate start time are calculated for each time of day.

Alessandro Fabris, Project Manager Logistics at Emil Frey, explains: "The introduction of the Greenplan Execution overall solution has brought numerous benefits to our route planning, particularly in terms of transparency, compliance with quality standards and reliability. The system was specially designed for our sprinter traffic and specific extensions are currently being developed. In particular, the reloading function, which allows the goods to be loaded into other vehicles on the tour, will make distribution traffic to our customers even more effective."

Efficient workflow design and reliable process documentation

The risk of incorrect deliveries, the increasing complexity of deliveries and high demands on process documentation - the drivers and dispatchers of the spare parts expert are also comprehensively supported with the EPG One app. The mobile application supports drivers with handling processes on site and offers dynamic and customizable workflows. The direct feedback to the respective dispatcher increases operational transparency on the one hand and enables flexible adjustment of route planning on the other.

Both the employees and the drivers are impressed by the ease of use of the system. The overall Greenplan solution and the EPG-One app have increased delivery quality and made the processes in the complaints department more effective.
