Ramps/gates/loading docks

So that the heat stays inside

There are also ways to save energy when loading and unloading trucks at the ramps. The focus here is on reducing transmission heat losses. The NovoDock L 730i docking station from Novoferm prevents cold bridges and the ingress of draughts under the dock leveller thanks to its fully enclosed design.

It is completely insulated even during the loading process.

Conventional dock levellers made of steel are not only extremely resilient, they are unfortunately also cold bridges that dissipate unwanted energy to the outside in temperature-controlled halls. The NovoDock L 730i dock leveller offers maximum insulation for greater energy efficiency and fewer draughts.

Loading station with insulating effect

Advantage one: The encapsulated design prevents heat loss and the ingress of draughts during the entire loading process. This is made possible by special Novoferm thermal panels, which are fitted underneath the loading platform and coupled to it. These follow every movement when the dock leveller is positioned on the truck loading edge.

A feed of up to 1,000 millimetres is possible and the maximum inclination is 12.5 percent in accordance with EN 1398. Unlike static dock levellers, the dock leveller from Novoferm remains thermally encapsulated during the entire loading process.

A recent study by the Cologne University of Applied Sciences confirms the potential energy savings. Compared to a conventional dock leveller, the study conducted by Prof. Dr. Sommer under realistic conditions shows that the heating energy requirement is reduced by 40 percent. The special design of NovoDoc L 730i prevents the exchange of different temperature conditions. This means that the temperature in the hall remains virtually the same whatever the weather.

There are two versions of the NovoDock L 730i, both fully insulated: The "ISO" variant and the "Standard" variant. Both have a simplified sectional door design. The resulting minimized construction costs result in the second cost-relevant user benefit in addition to energy efficiency: Traditionally, in order to protect docking stations from heat loss, thermal sectional doors are either extended to the floor level of the forecourt or to an insulating panel under the bridge. To do this, concrete workers have to form a gap between the floor slab and the frost apron through which the door can pass. In addition to the resulting additional costs, this gap also significantly reduces the stability of the frost apron in the area of the approach buffers. With NovoDock L 730i, on the other hand, this time-consuming and therefore cost-intensive effort is reduced to a minimum or even completely eliminated.

In the "ISO" version, ideally suited for temperature-controlled warehouses, the door is not guided into a continuous slot, but only into a 160 mm deep groove in front of the bridge below the hall level. The base plate and frost apron remain in one structural unit. Thanks to its encapsulated design, the dock leveller is still perfectly insulated from the front and bottom. In the "Standard" version, there is even no groove at all. Here, the sectional door stops on the dock leveller.

Easy installation within one day

This makes the NovoDock L 730i "Standard" comparatively quick and easy to install. Good to know: This means that completely insulated loading points can be installed in just one day. Perfectly suited for new build solutions or as a retrofit solution in existing buildings. Ideal for use wherever, for example, long, time-consuming loading with swap bodies takes place.

Targeted force absorption

The fact that the NovoDock L 730i floor slab and the frost apron form a single structural unit leads to the third savings effect: in maintenance costs. When a truck approaches, enormous forces act on the building. With the pit construction for this docking station, however, the impacts are dissipated directly into the floor slab, meaning that unsupported concrete elements cannot be damaged. In contrast to classically guided iso-loading stations. And as the dock levellers can also be driven under completely when the door is closed, costly damage to the high-quality sectional doors in this area is also ruled out - in contrast to the variant with a sectional door down to yard level.

Energy-saving control and drive technology

In line with the guiding principle of energy efficiency, the thermal energy savings of the NovoDock L 730i are supplemented by energy-saving control and drive technology: the "Novo i-Vision" reduces electrical energy consumption by up to 70 percent compared to standard market solutions. Added to this is the integrated "Novoferm Communication Interface (NCI)". It offers the option of optimizing door opening times and loading processes. All in all, Novoferm loading technology can make a major contribution to saving energy in the logistics environment.
