Energy 4.0 - driver of decarbonization

The energy industry is the key driver for the industrial transformation towards climate neutrality. The focus here is on the expansion of renewable energies, the decarbonization of heating, the conversion to smart grids, sector coupling with other industries and mobility. The transformation will be driven by artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. At Hannover Messe 2024, visitors will find out what challenges and opportunities these developments entail.

With the guiding theme "Energizing a sustainable Industry", Hannover Messe 2024 will focus on a sustainable and emission-free energy supply for industry. In Hall 12, more than 300 companies will be presenting their solutions in the fields of process and waste heat, renewable energies, energy management and energy efficiency as well as mobility, resource efficiency and the circular economy. The exhibitors include medium-sized companies such as Block, GP Joule, Janitza, Pflitsch, PreZero and Wöhner as well as energy companies such as Uniper and Shell. In the adjacent Hall 13, the hydrogen industry will be showing how it will contribute toCO2-neutral production in the future with new technologies and business models.

The use of solar systems can be a first step for companies to significantly reduceCO2 emissions. Hanwha Q Cells is a global leader in clean energy. "We are one of the largest manufacturers of high-quality photovoltaic products and also an energy supplier. Our DNA is solar. We offer turnkey, highly efficient PV systems for industry and commerce - from planning and installation to installment payments, power contracting or system leasing. We can also manage profitable balancing groups through direct marketing and virtual power plants," says Ian Clover, Corporate Communications at Hanwha Q Cells.

Data management just as crucial

However, it is not just the generation from renewable energy sources that is crucial, but also the underlying data management. Dennis Nasrun, Managing Director of metiundo: "A key success factor of the energy transition is that the energy efficiency of properties is controlled in a targeted manner and that they are integrated into a decentralized energy market. This requires live data on the consumption of different energy sources in buildings and data on local energy generation. metiundo provides this data as a complete service through an integrated smart metering infrastructure."

Another provider of energy management systems is FlowChief. FlowChief has been supporting companies in every phase of energy management since 2011 and currently has 300 customers. "In times of rising energy prices and the German climate neutrality target by 2045, consumption optimization is crucial for companies. The Energy Efficiency Act sets clear targets, which FlowChief meets with a manufacturer-independent energy management platform. The software solution offers all the necessary functions, aligned with the standard requirements of ISO 50001," says Christian Fink, Head of Product Management & Marketing FlowChief.

Energiency, a company founded in Rennes, France, in 2013, shows how energy can be saved using AI. Viktoria Scheuer, Partnership Manager & Lead Business Developer, explains the concept: "Energiency offers an Industry 4.0 technology that combines human and artificial intelligence to enable manufacturing companies to achieve new energy andCO2 savings of up to 15% within a few months. Following strong international growth, leading global companies in the food, chemical, automotive, paper and raw materials industries are already using this technology. Energiency has already received more than 30 international awards for its outstanding performance, including French Tech Excellence and Solar Impulse Efficient Solution."

One provider of software platforms is PcVue. Their platform has the ability to dynamically control multiple energy sources to cover the entire energy requirements of a site. "The focus is on profitability, optimization, energy efficiency and the best service. This applies to all areas of energy use such as e-mobility, renewable energy and energy distribution. PcVue is a fully featured SCADA solution that is easy to implement by system integrators," says Hans-Jürgen Schmitt, CEO, PcVue. The company Feilo Sylvania shows that lighting solutions also make a major contribution to energy efficiency. The SylSmart Standalone product is a wireless plug-and-play lighting control solution that is ideal for all applications where ease of installation, low initial cost and low maintenance are important. The system's core functions such as presence control, daylight-based white and color control, grouping, scheduling and wall switch configuration offer a wide range of possibilities.

Planning and implementationof CO2-reducing solutions

In addition to medium-sized companies, corporate groups are also represented, including Uniper. The company supports its customers in the planning and implementation of innovative,CO2-reducing solutions on the way to decarbonizing their activities. In addition to green products such as hydropower, biomethane or hydrogen, the energy company also offers customer-centric services such as the Decarb Roadmap or, as part of contracting and financing, complete packages for the construction, modernization and financing of climate-friendly power plant capacities. Gundolf Schweppe, CCO Sales, Uniper, adds: "In times of change, we are focusing on green transformation: we see ourselves as a driver and partner of decarbonization with security of supply. We work in the knowledge that we are a fundamental building block of the sustainable energy system of tomorrow. That motivates us every day."

Shell, one of the leading energy companies, will also be present. Petra Matzat, Managing Director Lubricants at Shell: "At Shell Energy Deutschland, we offer tailor-made energy solutions such as natural gas, electricity or PPAs to support our industrial and municipal customers in their decarbonization efforts. Shell Lubricant Solutions is the world's leading supplier of lubricants. Our products are designed to generate added value for our customers, regardless of the industry or specialization of their machinery and equipment."

The following companies will be exhibiting at the Energy 4.0 joint stand: B.E.I. - Berliner Energieinstitut, enable energy solutions, Energiency, ENERGYNEST, Feilo Sylvania, FlowChief, Hanwha Q Cells, hymate, Mavarick Energy, metiundo, node.energy, PcVue , Smartenergy Group, Solar-Stunde and VDMA Power Systems.

Energy 4.0 stage as the central platform for all energy and climate topics
The Energy 4.0 Conference Stage is one of the most popular stages at Hannover Messe and the focal point of Hall 12. It is the central platform for all energy, climate and sustainability topics. The motto for the Monday of the fair is "International Perspectives on challenges and opportunities in the global energy market". Program highlights include the 2nd German-French Business Forum, which will be held under the title "Electricity for Industry in Germany and France: Interactions, Challenges and Potentials", and the 17th German-Japanese Business Forum. There, experts will discuss the topic of "Heat and resource transition in Japanese and German industry".

From Tuesday to Thursday, the partner associations VDMA, ZVEI and VDE will organize the program and focus on resilient and sustainable energy ecosystems. For the first time, the Energy 4.0 special show will be supplemented by a technical forum, the Energy 4.0 Academy. The program partner is the Renewable Energies Association of Lower Saxony/Bremen.
