Professor Uwe Clausen admitted to acatech

At its meeting on October 15, the General Assembly of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) accepted Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Clausen, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, as a new member. After Prof. Michael ten Hompel (2011), Prof. Axel Kuhn (2012) and Prof. Michael Henke (2018), Clausen is now the fourth representative of Dortmund logistics science in acatech.

Members of acatech are admitted to the Academy on the basis of their scientific achievements and reputation. They are involved in the Academy's thematic networks, in which scientific and overarching issues with a technology policy background are discussed. acatech represents the German technological sciences in Germany and abroad in a self-determined, independent and public interest-oriented manner. The Academy advises both politics and society on matters relating to technology science and technology policy. In addition, acatech's objectives include the transfer of knowledge between science and industry and the promotion of young talent in the field of science and engineering. The members of the Academy are renowned scientists from research, teaching and industry.

Prof. Uwe Clausen is head of the Fraunhofer IML and the Institute for Transport Logistics ITL at the Technical University of Dortmund. In his research, he and his team work primarily on efficient structures and processes for mobility and transport logistics as well as on linking the various modes of transport. He is also a member of the scientific advisory board of the Association of German Transport Companies VDV and the German Logistics Association BVL. At European level, he represents the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in the European Conference of Transport Research Institutes (ECTRI).
