Change from the waste disposal industry

Martin Schrüfer,

Marc Henning new Head of Central Hub at 24plus

Marc Henning is the new head of the 24plus central hub in Hauneck near Bad Hersfeld. The 50-year-old succeeds Steffen Renner, who left the hub operating company 24plus hub logistics at the end of 2018. Henning is moving to 24plus from the waste disposal industry, where he held management positions for over ten years, most recently at Remondis. Previously, Henning also held various positions at the system carrier CargoNetwork. Henning reports directly to the management team of Peter Baumann and Stefan Rehmet.

In the two-tier 24plus network, the central hub is mainly used to handle lower-volume routes and overhangs. The majority of consignments are transported directly between the system partners. "Even though the central hub plays second fiddle in terms of shipment volumes in our network, the handling quality in the hub is of fundamental importance for the general cargo system," explains 24plus Managing Director Stefan Rehmet. "We are delighted that we have been able to appoint Marc Henning, a manager with many years of experience."

Preparation for higher handling volumes

In addition to managing operations, Henning's tasks also include involvement in investment planning. "We are currently preparing to purchase new scanners, and in the medium term, replacing the forklift fleet will be an issue," explains Marc Henning. Henning and his team have also launched an initiative to increase efficiency. This serves to prepare the hub operation for increasing volumes. Currently, the central hub with its 104 gates and 5,200 square meters of handling area is designed for an average handling capacity of 200 tons per hour; at the extreme, 250 tons per hour can be handled. Henning: "With the expected economic upturn in the fall and the planned connection of new partners, we are reaching our limits in terms of personnel and space. We will make organizational changes to create a buffer for the planned volume increases."

One prerequisite for the planned increase in efficiency is employee retention. The core of hub handling takes place from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Marc Henning: "These are not very attractive working hours." Although there is full employment in the logistics region around Bad Hersfeld, Henning does not have to complain about a shortage of skilled workers. "We make up for the disadvantages with a particularly high level of appreciation and a familiar working atmosphere. We also offer our employees individual training and support measures."
