Hannover Messe not only showcases the latest products, technologies and innovations in industry, but also promotes international trade by bringing together business leaders, politicians and investors from around the world. This year, Canada is the Partner Country of Hannover Messe 2025, highlighting the strong economic and political ties between "The True North" and Germany. Canada announced its commitment as Partner Country in August 2022, when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hosted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Canada. Canada's presentation this year will showcase how global partnerships will lead the world to a smarter and greener future.

Canada is a member of the World Trade Organization and the only country to have concluded a trade agreement with all G7 countries. In total, Canada has trade agreements with 51 countries, of which CETA (European Union), CPTPP (Trans-Pacific) and USMCA/CUSMA (USA/Mexico) are the most important. The manufacturing and energy sectors account for around 10.5 percent of Canada's gross domestic product. The strongest industrial sectors are the automotive industry, the food industry and mechanical engineering. The most important industrial provinces are Ontario, Québec and Alberta.

Canada and Germany have long enjoyed a close partnership focused on areas such as trade and investment, energy and climate, critical minerals and key technologies. The German-Canadian Hydrogen Alliance, for example, supports the growth of the supply chain necessary for global decarbonization, while Canada's rapid expansion of liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities enhances Germany's energy security.

The motto "The future's here" describes the country's focus on creating sustainable and environmentally friendly industries. Canada's main pavilion in Hall 2 showcases Canada's national science and innovation ecosystem. Other pavilions are dedicated to topics such as artificial intelligence, automation, clean technologies, hydrogen, electromobility and robotics. Accompanying events include the Canada Conference Stage in Hall 2, the German-Canadian Business Summit, the Leaders' Dialogue, the Eureka Global Innovation Summit (GIS) and the Renewable Dialogue, as well as networking events highlighting innovation and business opportunities in Canada.

Germany is Canada's most important trading partner within the European Union. Trade between the two countries covers a broad spectrum. Canada's main exports to Germany include natural resources, agricultural products, machinery and aerospace components. On the other hand, Canada imports machinery, automotive products, chemicals and high-tech equipment from Germany.

Each year, the focus is on a partner country that is selected according to criteria such as economic growth, a strong or emerging industrial sector and a commitment to sustainability. At the Hannover Messe, the partner country presents its technological strengths, research projects and investment opportunities to an international audience. The previous partner countries were Norway (2024), Indonesia (2023), Portugal (2022), Sweden (2019), Mexico (2018), Poland (2017) and the USA (2016).
