Shuttles and letters
The year 2018 will soon be drawing to a close. The last "normal" materialfluss issue of the year (the annual special issue materialfluss MARKT will be published on December 14) will this time focus on storage and retrieval machines and shuttles.
For example, Gebhardt Fördertechnik acted as general contractor for the automated intralogistics of Miele's new central spare parts warehouse. The well-known manufacturer of household appliances invested around 30 million in the project near Gütersloh. With sums like this, the question often arises as to whether progress, especially automation, could soon make people in the warehouse superfluous. Handling editor-in-chief Petra Born and my colleague Martin Schrüfer discuss this from two different perspectives in the 2 Perspectives section (see page 6). From high-tech automation to the good, tried-and-tested letter: our esteemed columnist Intra has acquired a taste for writing letters, perhaps not least because of the positive feedback (see below). This time she is writing to the German logistics experts, w ho once again emphasized the importance of logistics for the entire economy w ith the presentation of a new initiative at the BVL Congress. Of course we are interested in your opinion this time too; is the campaign enough?

Reaction to issue 10/18: Intra Logistik's column "Dear Amazon, ..."
Dear Intra,
You speak from my heart. I'm also one of those comfortable office chair potatoes who like to order "on the fly" from Amazon & Co. Especially for the office. That's not smart. And how often have I been annoyed by oversized packaging - and not just on Amazon! How many times have I written to the companies and asked for adequate and more environmentally friendly packaging! How often did I get an answer? But also: why do I still order online? I am therefore particularly pleased that you are asking similar questions and providing excellent suggestions. Perhaps a little girl in public will achieve more than a middle-aged woman in a quiet little room. That would be great! In any case, you've already achieved something for me: I'm thinking more about my consumption behavior. Thank you for that.
Best regards, Kirsten O. (name known to the editors)
