Maritime economy: Green light for "BreakBulk Europe 2018" trade fair: bremenports signs host contract

Bremen, 17.07.2017 - It is now official: Bremen will host the logistics trade fair "BreakBulk Europe 2018" next year. During a two-day visit by employees of the organizer Breakbulk Events & Media, the host contract concluded with the port company bremenports was signed in the Hanseatic city. The organizer is hoping for up to 13,000 trade visitors from 29 to 31 May.

BreakBulk Europe is one of the leading trade fairs of its kind. "This is where everyone who is anyone in international breakbulk and heavy-lift logistics comes together," said bremenports Managing Director Robert Howe on Thursday (July 13, 2017). Breakbulk refers to general cargo that cannot be transported in containers due to its size, weight or sheer volume - from steel and timber products to turbines and materials for entire factories.

After Antwerp, the ports of Bremen are Europe's number 2 handling center for breakbulk cargo. "For this reason alone, the organizers' decision to choose Bremen was a logical one," says bremenports Marketing Director Michael Skiba. "We have been trying to attract the trade fair for years and are proud to have brought it to the Weser now. The close cooperation with Messe Bremen and BTZ Bremer Touristik-Zentrale has paid off."

Howe is pleased about the positive effects of the trade fair for the hotel and restaurant industry in Bremen, Bremerhaven and the region. The bremenports boss expects up to 20,000 additional overnight stays.
