Eurogate holds its own despite difficult market environment
Bremen, 26.01.2016 -

The Eurogate Group increased container throughput at its German terminals by 1.5% to 8.2 million TEU in 2015. The North Sea terminals in Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven recorded an overall increase in container volumes of 1.9%. In Bremerhaven, feeder volumes in Russian traffic declined and, at 5.5 million TEU, the site handled 4.3% less than in 2014. The container volume handled by the terminal, which opened in 2012, increased by 1.9%.
Eurogate Container Terminals Wilhelmshaven, on the other hand, increased sixfold
to 426,751 TEU. After a strong start, Container Terminal Hamburg was caught up in the weakening Chinese foreign trade over the course of the year and stagnated at 2.3 million TEU (+0.5 percent compared to the previous year). The total container throughput of the Eurogate Group, which operates throughout Europe, amounted to 14.6 million TEU.
Emanuel Schiffer, Chairman of the Group Management Board (pictured): "Eurogate handled over 200 container ships >18,000 TEU on the North Sea in 2015. Our container terminals are predestined to handle the new container giants, and our customers have now also recognized this. For this reason, we have been able to buck the trend. The market environment remains difficult and is characterized by overcapacity and weakening global demand, triggered by the slump in Chinese foreign trade. We also expect 2016 to be a difficult year. Against this backdrop, we are focusing all our efforts on providing our customers with the service they want. "We can handle large container ships" - Eurogate has proven that." red
