Unterschleissheim, 03.08.2017 - Iveco is holding several events to present the Stralis NP, a truck suitable for long-distance transport with a drive alternative to diesel, to interested customers. So far, events have taken place in the presence of politicians, associations and customers in Herten and Potsdam, with Hamburg and Stuttgart to follow.

Freight transport will inevitably be decarbonized by 2050. The great progress made with diesel trucks with their strict, precisely defined approval procedures will be almost offset by the explosive increase in freight volumes. In order to achieve the interim targets for 2030 - a 40% reduction inCO2 - a quick solution is in sight for long-distance heavy goods transport: LNG, i.e. deep-frozen, liquefied natural gas with the highest possible admixture of renewable gas (biogas, wind gas from electricity).
In addition to the environmental requirements, a long-distance truck must meet further conditions: it must fit seamlessly into the existing logistics (use of existing trailers and adherence to driving times / cycle times). Furthermore, the driver must not be restricted in terms of handling and space. The Stralis NP with 400 hp and 1,700 Newton meters offers all of this.
Iveco has received positive feedback from interested parties at information and driving events. Provided there is a sufficient tank infrastructure, which is currently being developed, there is a great willingness to switch to LNG. This is because the technology and handling are well known. The Stralis NP is also quiet, with noise levels halved. In addition, refueling takes place within five minutes and there is no loss of payload. Although the tanks are heavier, the fuel is lighter: 400 kilograms are enough for around 1,500 kilometers. The recent decision to extend the tax reduction on natural gas until 2026 provides investment security for transport companies and filling station operators. red/cd
