Continuation as Transco Mainsped

Martin Schrüfer,

Largest acquisition in the company's history: Transco takes over Mainsped

The medium-sized Transco Group with its operational headquarters in Singen is continuing its expansion course and has taken over Mainsped Banse GmbH & Co KG, which has around 100 employees and is based in Rüsselsheim. The purchase was made in the form of an asset deal by the holding company Transco Suisse AG. The acquired company will continue to operate as Transco Mainsped GmbH. The takeover will enable the company to continue on its current growth path. In addition to the employees, the new company will take over the rolling stock, including more than 100 trailers. The previous Mainsped management team of Ralf Ossenbühl and Thomas Banse will hold a minority stake in the new company. Ralf Ossenbühl manages the company's business, Thomas Banse is an authorized signatory.

Until now, the Transco Group has mainly implemented its expansion strategy by founding new subsidiaries and only acquired smaller companies in exceptional cases. The acquisition of Mainsped is the largest corporate acquisition in the company's history for the Transco Group, which had around 600 employees before the takeover. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

As forwarding and logistics companies, both Transco and Mainsped specialize in industry solutions for transport and warehouse logistics. There is a large overlap in the customer groups. Transco and Mainsped work for automotive suppliers and the automotive industry as well as for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

In the transport sector, both companies focus on part and full loads, with a preference for rail loading. In the past, the two companies have even been in close contact in terms of routes: Transco and Mainsped are specialists in combined transport to and from Italy. This applies to consignments of all sizes, from general cargo to part and full loads to project logistics. Due to this regional focus, Transco and Mainsped maintain branches and subsidiaries respectively in the greater Milan area. These two Italian operations will be merged following the takeover. In addition, Mainsped maintains rail connections to Spain and operates a branch in Barcelona. The Spanish branch will remain after the takeover. Despite their similar orientation, the two companies have not acted as direct competitors due to their geographical distance.

"We are similar in many ways and speak the same language," explains Christian Bücheler, Managing Partner of Transco. "This alignment was a key reason for the takeover." Bücheler sees the takeover of Mainsped as part of securing the future of the company and its jobs. As part of the Transco Group, Transco Mainsped will be able to benefit from economies of scope. Bücheler: "Under our umbrella, the new company will remain capable of investing and therefore in a position to provide customers with qualified services."

Another important reason for the takeover was Mainsped's headquarters in Rüsselsheim. The Opel city is located halfway between Transco's headquarters in Singen and the important Transco branch in Neuss and will therefore serve as a hub for goods and transportation. Bücheler: "The new subsidiary will not only open up Spain as a destination for rail transportation. More importantly, Transco Mainsped will give us access to the economically highly interesting Rhine-Main region."
