EPAL: Record result of 115.8 million EPAL pallets in 2017

Düsseldorf, 22.01.2018 - The European Pallet Association e.V. (EPAL) announces a record result of 115.8 million EPAL quality load carriers produced and repaired in 2017. Compared to the previous year, this is an increase of almost 10%. Pure production figures rose by 9.7% to 88.3 million EPAL pallets in 2017. The repair figures climbed to 27.5 million, representing a whopping 10% increase compared to the previous year. The EPAL Euro pallet is regarded as an early indicator for the economy. The economic barometer, which has been rising for years in economically strong countries, has driven demand for EPAL Euro pallets to a record level in the past year, and the capacities of EPAL producers and repairers have been fully utilized for months. The persistently high demand for sawn timber led to a shortage of the raw material and a massive price increase for sawn pallet timber in 2017, which increased the cost pressure on EPAL pallet producers.
Martin Leibrandt, CEO of EPAL: "The current peaks in demand can be absorbed with solid planning and a long-term partnership between EPAL pallet producers, suppliers and customers. Industrial and retail partners who have planned early and value long-term supplier relationships are well and securely supplied. The excellent 2017 figures are the result of the joint work of all EPAL National Committees and licensees and a sign that industry and trade are increasingly relying on independently tested quality and safety, which pay off in the long term."
The EPAL system with its three pillars of uniform international standardization, independent quality assurance and the safeguarding and tracking of trademark rights guarantees users high-quality load carriers for functioning global logistics. EPAL Euro pallets can be used several times, can be repaired at low cost and conserve natural resources. red
