64,000 square meters of new logistics space
New logistics center: Fiege builds in Emmerich am Rhein
Fiege is to build a new logistics location on a 12.5 hectare site in Emmerich am Rhein. In the border region in the northwest of North Rhine-Westphalia, 64,000 square meters of logistics space will be created in two construction phases. The Fiege Real Estate Development department will develop the new logistics center.
"We will submit the building application this month and hope to be able to start the first construction phase soon", says Jan Fiege, Managing Director Real Estate Development at Fiege. The first three halls, which together will measure 32,000 square meters, are scheduled to open in September 2019. In a second construction phase, a further 32,000 square meters of hall space will be created. In the first phase, Fiege will hire around 75 permanent employees for the new location - from the commercial and industrial sectors.
"In Emmerich, we will be working for customers from the consumer goods sector and will store, pick, pack and ship our customers' goods there. We will also provide various value-added services for the customer and carry out quality checks on the products," reveals Jan Fiege. At the same time, he emphasizes: "The new location in Emmerich has no impact on the Bocholt site. This will be retained. The new location in Emmerich is of strategic importance for Fiege. Especially because it offers optimal conditions for the multichannel requirements of our customers." From Emmerich, Fiege will serve all sales channels for its customers and ship goods for stationary, mobile and online retail.
The awarding of the space in the Nettpark business park to the logistics service provider Fiege also pleases the municipal decision-makers. "Since 2016, we have seen a significant increase in demand for this space," reports Arndt Wilms, Managing Director of Erschließungsgesellschaft Emmerich am Rhein (EGE). In addition to the optimal trimodal transport connections, the site was of particular interest to investors due to its size. "These days, sites of this size are a rarity. And if, as in our case, they can be developed on a greenfield site without contaminated sites, they are particularly attractive," adds Reinhard Barthel, also Managing Director of EGE.
Emmerich gains in importance as a logistics location
Most recently, there were several interested parties with different concepts - including investor models from project developers. "In the end, we opted for the Fiege Group. As a traditional family business, Fiege enjoys a very good reputation in the logistics sector. We believe that the company will invest sustainably in Emmerich and further strengthen Emmerich as a logistics location through its local logistics activities", says EGE Managing Director Arndt Wilms.
Emmerich's mayor and interim business promoter, Peter Hinze, is also pleased about the settlement: "The Fiege Group's commitment will further increase Emmerich's importance as a logistics location and create numerous new jobs in Emmerich."
