There are a total of 13 categories to choose from, covering almost all areas of intralogistics. In addition to forklift trucks, warehouse technology devices and special vehicles, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), shuttles, robots, cargo bikes, drones, cranes, software and apps as well as successfully implemented, holistic warehouse concepts are also eligible to apply. In addition, prizes are awarded for outstanding technical details or components, such as ergonomic innovations, safety solutions or automation components. In the "Start-up of the Year" category, newly founded companies with innovative prototypes or functional developments can apply for an IFOY Award.

The selection by an international jury, which includes internationally renowned trade journalists, is preceded by an extensive audit with nomination and test cycles. The devices and solutions nominated for the final will undergo individually tailored driving or functional tests, including the IFOY test protocol comprising around 80 criteria and the scientific IFOY Innovation Check, at the IFOY Test Days from March 18 to 23, 2022 at the Dortmund Exhibition Centre. In addition, the jurors and their teams of advisors from the business world will travel to Dortmund to assess the finalists themselves before casting their votes. The IFOY Test Days will once again host the Intralogistics Test Camp in 2022, which will be open to B2B trade visitors interested in innovation.
