Lifting oven grates

Katja Preydel,

KITO ER2 electric chain hoist in use at Bharat Forge CDP

Bharat Forge CDP has been established in the crane industry for more than 30 years and is a leading supplier of forged chassis and engine components as well as non-automotive systems. In Ennepetal, complex drop-forged parts for chassis, drive trains and rail technology are manufactured. Bharat Forge CDP has been working with the KITO ER2 electric chain hoist for lifting furnace grates in a production hall since 2020. Due to the high level of satisfaction, the company has now increased the number of chain hoists to six.

For KITO, Joachim Höh, Head of Infrastructure Maintenance at Bharat Forge CDP, explains why the electric chain hoists make day-to-day work at the company easier: "We decided to use the KITO ER2 after visiting KITO with the DemoVan. I was able to inspect the tool in detail and it immediately made a very robust and stable impression on me - exactly the right solution for our application. We use the chain hoists to lift kiln grates filled with material. The furnace grates then travel to the tempering systems, which are located one floor higher. The cycle time here is every seven minutes."

As the electric chain hoist in the Bharat Forge CDP system could not be used with the standard control system, this was customized by Kranservice Essers in collaboration with KITO Customer Service.

Another solution was also developed together: To prevent the load from moving out of the hook, KITO offered the safety load hook option. For Joachim Höh, working with the chain hoist is characterized by reliability: "We don't need to talk about it for long. The reliability of the ER2 chain hoists is the be-all and end-all for me. It started with one hoist in 2020, and now there are six units in use in the tempering plants to operate the material hoists." The higher FEM classification of these electric chain hoists was also an important point and a decision-making aid.

Joachim Höh has been impressed by the quality, performance, price-performance ratio, long service life and the resulting increase in productivity since his first purchase: "Everything is just right here and so far the devices have run absolutely trouble-free. That can only be praised! KITO is a competent partner for quick problem solving. The KITO ER2 electric chain hoists make my team's and my daily work much easier. Without the use of the hoists, the furnace grates would have to be carried into the hot tempering systems by hand. So we can take care of other things in daily operations."

The electric chain hoist works under the toughest conditions. It is no stranger to high performance, durability and robustness. The chain hoists remain corrosion-resistant thanks to their aluminum housing (die-cast) and powder coating, while the internal components (including the electromagnetic brake, gearbox, high-quality frequency inverter and carbon friction clutch) are designed for harsh conditions and are well supported. Last but not least, the electroless nickel-plated load chain, securely positioned in the steel chain container, guarantees a continuous flow.

KITO is the only manufacturer in the world to nickel-plate its load chain in an electroless process, making it more resistant than conventional load chains. The symbiosis of hoist and chain ensures the best possible safety, durability and efficiency. For Bharat Forge CDP, this means: less wear, longer service life and durability, lower maintenance costs, lower costs due to the longer service life and greater safety.
