Innovation from Demag

Martin Schrüfer,

Chain hoist with balancer function for intuitive load guidance

With the DCBS chain hoist, Demag is presenting a compact hoist that is designed to make assembly and, above all, joining processes even easier and safer with its intelligent control system. In its basic function, the DCBS is an infinitely variable chain hoist based on the DCS series. It masters the usual tasks: The operator actuates the D-Grip Servo operating handle and the load, with a maximum weight of 160 kg, is raised or lowered using an electric motor.

However, what fundamentally sets the DCBS apart from other chain hoists is the integrated balancer function, which is familiar from the Demag E-Balancer D-BE. It enables loads to be guided without operating the control pendant. The operator simply moves the load to the desired height with little force and can position it much more precisely with both hands because he does not have to take the "detour" via the control panel. This makes work much easier - and not just when precise positioning is required.

By pressing a switch, or automatically if set accordingly, the DCBS switches between the two operating modes "handle guidance" and "load guidance" and enables intuitive load guidance. The hoist is equipped with sensitive sensors for this purpose: Using a pressure sensor, the hand force of the operator is detected, in the handle guide, and this is converted to control the lifting movement. This eliminates the need for the operator to press buttons to control the hoist. An integrated load sensor detects weight and possible weight fluctuations and derives the desired direction of movement and speed from this in the load guide. This allows the operator to guide the load into the desired position with both hands, and in joining mode, which is particularly suitable for the horizontal joining of components, any possible swinging of the load is prevented and converted into a gentle pendulum movement. This enables the precise joining of components, avoids possible damage caused by the parts hitting each other and therefore also increases the speed of assembly.

The fourth operating mode of the DCBS is the load pick-up mode. This function is useful, for example, when changing tools or removing parts from sensitive devices or test benches. The balancer can be set so that it only lifts until a preset force is reached. It therefore enables the lifting and pretensioning of the load handling attachment - with the result that the load can be removed from a device, for example, without sagging or tilting upwards. At the same time, the machine or device is protected against excessive forces. All operating modes are linked to additional protection and safety functions, such as adjustable load or speed limits, making work even safer.
