Luggage transportation
Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport commissions Beumer with follow-up project
The Beumer Group installed the Beumer autover high-speed baggage transport system at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport just in time for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The operator has now decided to continue the expansion of the baggage transport system with the Beumer Group. The plan is to connect the new Terminal C with the existing system.
The existing BEUMER autover baggage handling system runs at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour through a two-kilometer tunnel directly under the runway and connects the northern and southern parts of the airport. The system consists of the rail installation and the so-called BEUMER autoca. These are vehicles that hold one piece of baggage each and thus enable one hundred percent baggage tracking. More than 900 suitcases and bags can currently be transported per hour, reducing baggage connection times to a minimum.
The Beumer Group is now also to equip the airport's new Terminal C with the autover system. The order for the expansion includes connecting Terminal C to the northern section via a corridor around 200 meters long. This is where the system will meet up with the existing BEUMER autover system. This will allow standard and bulky baggage (OOG) to be transported to the south station with the autoca.
With a capacity of more than 40 million passengers a year, Moscow Sheremetyevo is one of the largest airports in Russia. It is one of the country's most important aviation hubs. An increase to 85 million passengers per year is expected by 2026.
The scope of delivery includes 31 autoca. Of these, 29 are designed for standard luggage and two for bulky luggage. There are also around 800 meters of rails. The completion date is scheduled for August 30, 2019. The BEUMER team, consisting of Russian, Danish and German employees, is doing a successful and convincing job here.
