Capacity expansion in China
Interroll opens new plant in Suzhou
After two decades on the Chinese material handling market, Interroll has opened a new plant in Suzhou. The aim is to double production capacity in the Asia-Pacific region and in China.
As a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Interroll Group, the new plant is located in the Suzhou Industrial Park, an economic and technological development zone, covers a total area of approximately 28,000 square meters and was built with a total investment of RMB 181 million (approx. CHF 25 million). With the new plant, Interroll not only intends to expand its capacities, but also to confirm its long-term commitment to the Chinese and Asia-Pacific markets. As a regional center of excellence (RCoE), the new plant will produce the entire range of conveyor rollers, roller drives, drum motors, the modular conveyor platform (MCP), sorters and pallet conveyors (MPP). It will also act as a regional center of excellence for polymers and subsystems.
The users served from China are active in various industries and range from China Post, S. F. Express, JD.com, Wuxi Lion, Aokang and Liwayway domestically to end customers such as Toyota, Red Bull, Amazon and Youngone throughout Asia. In the medium term, Interroll expects further growth opportunities in e-commerce, warehousing and express delivery, food, airports, pharmaceuticals, apparel, automotive and other industries in the Asia-Pacific region and China simply by deepening cooperation with existing customers.
"The new plant in Suzhou will enable us to further improve customer relationships in the region through reduced lead times, faster global product launches and additional service capabilities - in short, to further optimize quality, speed and simplicity," says Ben Xia, Executive Vice President Asia Pacfic and member of the Interroll Group Management Board.
Interroll established its first production facility in Suzhou back in 2002, followed by two on-site relocations to larger sites in 2006 and 2011. In March 2014, due to the rapid growth of the business, Interroll also established its Asian headquarters in Shanghai to provide easier access to products and services for its customers based in the region in conjunction with the regional CoE in Suzhou. In September 2014, Interroll also acquired Shenzhen Pert Engineering Co, Ltd, a leading manufacturer of belt curves in Asia, which produces the Portec brand of products, and made the Shenzhen site its regional CoE for belt curves.
