Ecological, exchangeable, innovative
The Euro pallet has been an evergreen for more than 50 years: 78 nails, 11 boards and 9 blocks - nothing more. Thanks to its consistently high quality and unlimited interchangeability, the EPAL Euro pallet is a bestseller in logistics. If the 450 million or so EPAL Euro pallets currently on the market were laid end to end, they would stretch 1.4 times the distance from the earth to the moon - 540,000 kilometers. The distance is gigantic. But even if it's just a mental exercise, the enormous quantity of EPAL Euro pallets shows that they are the number one load carrier worldwide and will continue to be so in the future, with a constant increase in production figures of almost ten percent per year.

In times of green logistics, when everyone involved in the logistics chain is striving to minimize their CO2 footprint, there is no getting around wooden load carriers. The environmentally friendly production from CO2-neutral wood is the basis for the positive eco-balance of the EPAL Euro pallet. Equally important is the high level of reusability, guaranteed by the independent quality assurance of the production and repair of EPAL Euro pallets. The large number of cycles of the EPAL Euro pallet and the subsequent possibility of quality-assured repair conserves the resource wood and contributes significantly to the success of the EPAL Euro pallet.
Ecology and economy in balance
Perfect handling when exchanging pallets is essential for the economic balance sheet. It has to be uncomplicated and as smooth as possible. And this is precisely why questions and uncertainties during the exchange process are not only annoying, but also cost time and money. Quality-assured EPAL Euro pallets can be exchanged worldwide without restriction and without the need for special agreements between the companies involved. But does this also apply to pallets from other suppliers, for example UIC pallets or World pallets?
Simple exchange of EPAL Euro pallets
Lawyer Bernd Dörre, who has been dealing with all legal issues relating to the use of EPAL Euro pallets for 20 years, comments: "A prerequisite for the exchangeability of pallets in the EPAL Euro pallet pool is the marking of the pallets with the "EPAL in the oval" brand as proof of independent quality assurance of production and repair. EPAL and the owner of the "EUR in an oval" brand, the International Union of Railways (UIC), have contractually agreed that pallets with the "EUR in an oval" brand are also exchangeable in the EPAL Euro pallet pool. No such agreement exists for pallets with other branding such as "World". They are not subject to independent quality assurance in accordance with the provisions of the EPAL Technical Regulations and are therefore not eligible for exchange in the EPAL Euro pallet pool."
Only pallets bearing the "EPAL in oval" or "EUR in oval" mark can therefore be exchanged in the EPAL Euro pallet pool without any special agreement. This facilitates use and exchange and avoids conflicts at the loading ramp. For all other pallets, however, individual agreements must be made which are only valid for the two companies involved.
