Energy supply for AGVs and AMRs in the cleanroom

Automating transport processes with automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in cleanrooms - Puls Wireless makes this possible with its Eta-Link 3000 inductive charging system.

The energy solution has been certified for ISO class 4 by the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA. This enables the safe use of transport robots in highly sensitive production environments for the first time. Whether in semiconductor production, the pharmaceutical industry or medical technology - the automation of sensitive transportation tasks using AGVs and AMRs in cleanrooms is on the rise. In higher ISO cleanroom classes in particular, however, the systems have so far reached their limits due to their mechanical battery charging solutions. Copper abrasion occurs during every charging process with sliding contacts. The particles are distributed in the production environment and, in extreme cases, can damage entire batches of valuable semiconductor substrates (wafers) or contaminate medicines.

Almost all well-known robot manufacturers therefore rely on the contactless power supply with the Eta-Link 3000 system from Puls Wireless. "Our wireless charging solution is encapsulated and does not require any mechanical contacts. This virtually eliminates particle abrasion and contamination of the production environment," explains Julian Seume, former CSO of Wiferion and now Director of the Puls Wireless business unit. The certification by the Fraunhofer IPA now also officially gives users the assurance that the charging process poses no risk to their production. "With this award, we are laying the foundation for mobile transport robotics to also be used in sensitive areas. We see great potential here and are already in good talks to further expand this segment," says Julian Seume.
