Quality Association for Pallets launches CO2 economy car

Gütegemeinschaft Paletten e.V., the German national committee of the European Pallet Association e.V., has recently started operating a continuous CO2 savings clock under the motto "Save the world". This shows at any time how much CO2 has been saved by the production of EPAL Euro pallets in Germany since August 2013.

The savings result from the number of EPAL Euro pallets produced in Germany alone on the one hand and the CO2 absorption of the wood used on the other. The values for CO2 absorption were determined using the Pallet Carbon Calculator from the ECCM/Camco Group, Skogs Industrierna and timcon. Due to the worldwide production of EPAL Euro pallets, the global CO2 savings are even more than twice as high.

The start date for the count was 1 August 2013, when EPAL began the autonomous and independent organization of the open Euro pallet exchange pool. This key data results in a constantly growing value that shows the CO2 savings made by EPAL Euro pallets of German production in real time.

Visible positive effect

The famous model for the GPAL CO2 savings clock is the debt clock of the German Taxpayers' Association. However, this shows a completely negative progression, whereas the GPAL clock shows the exclusively positive effect that the use of EPAL wooden pallets has on our environment. The CO2 savings clock is therefore a further component of the Gütegemeinschaft Paletten e.V.'s ecological self-image.

About EPAL and GPAL

The European Pallet Association e. V. (EPAL) is the umbrella organization of licensed manufacturers and repairers of EPAL pallets and pallet cages, founded in 1991. Since August 1, 2013, EPAL has been producing and repairing Euro pallets with the EPAL logo on four corner blocks under exclusive license. EPAL is responsible for the consistent quality of EPAL load carriers worldwide and relies on independent external quality testing. EPAL is represented in 15 countries by its own national committees, which are committed to the national implementation of the EPAL objectives. Gütegemeinschaft Paletten e. V., on the other hand, is the German national committee of the European Pallet Association e. V. (EPAL) and represents the holder of the label rights in Germany with the quality assurance of EPAL Euro pallets and EPAL pallet cages.

Around 80 million EPAL Euro pallets have been produced in Germany since August 2013. This results in a total of more than two billion kg of CO2 savings. The CO2 savings clock was presented for the first time at the end of September at the Gütegemeinschaft Paletten e. V. stand at FachPack in Nuremberg. Since then, it has also been available at http://www.save-the-world.info.
